What is MAPS?

The Morris Area Paratransit System (MAPS) is Morris County's transportation service for senior citizens and people with disabilities, operated by the Morris county Department on Senior, Disability and Veteran Services. Using small buses, cars and station wagons, MAPS provides weekday transportation to various destinations in the county, including medical facilities, education and employment sites. Many MAPS vehicles are equipped for people using wheelchairs.

Who can use MAPS?

You can use MAPS if you are a Morris County resident AND:

  • You are age 60 or older
  • - OR -
  • You have physical or mental disability that includes functional limitations.
  • If scheduling permits, MAPS may be able to provide transportation for people temporarily disabled by illness or injury.

Most MAPS trips will be in Morris County of a limited distance outside the Couty, so we have time to serve as many people as possible.

What kind of trips can I make on MAPS?

Trips to medical appointments, especially chemotherapy, radiation therapy and dialysis, have high priority. Trips to work, school and adult day care are also important. If scheduling permits, transportation for other reasons, like nursing home visits, may be available.

What days does MAPS operate?

All MAPS regions have transportation service during daytime hours Monday through Friday. The hours vary depending on which region you live in. If you have a question about MAPS service hours, call the provider for your region or the MAPS office.

Do I need to make reservations in advance for MAPS?

YES! For regular weekday trips, you must call at least 48 hours in advance. For the best chance of getting transportation when you want it, you should call or e-mail at least a week in advance, since there is a big demand for the MAPS service.

For any group trips (daily, evening or weekend), you must call at least two weeks in advance. Only a limited amount of evening and weekend transportation is available, but we will do out best to serve you.

How much does a trip on MAPS cost?

There is no charge for MAPS rides, but we do ask for donations to help pay the cost of service. The following are suggested donations:

  • General Ridership
    • $1.00 per round trip
  • For transportation to employment:
    • $1.00 per round trip or $20.00 per month (for regular employment)
    • $0.50 per round trip or $10.00 per month (Employment Horizons or other shelter workshops)
  • For evening or weekend service:
    • $3.00 per round trip

Morris County is divided into three regions, with different transportation providers. Use the map to determine what region you live in. most people will be part of the largest region, the MAPS Greater Morris Region. The name and telephone number of the providers are shown on the map.
